In The Books: Most Notable Business Books 2007

It's here!

Yesterday a pallet of boxes arrived at our office. We get pallets nearly every day, but this one was special: it contained copies of our first ever 800-CEO-READ review of the year in business books.

The publication is called In The Books: Most Notable Business Books of 2007. Our editorial team here at 800-CEO-READ, along with help from Erika Andersen, Dan Roam, and designer Joy Panos Stauber, compiled this annual of what we consider to be the year's most notable titles and trends in business book publishing. Check out the Table of Contents below to get an idea of what's covered.

We're extremely proud of this publication; it marks a big step for our growing business and the people here who make 800-CEO-READ such a fun place to work. We hope you'll see the spirit of our company throughout the piece.

Interesting idea. Does this new book provide detailed summaries of the year's best books? Or just reprint Jack's (and other's) original reviews and blog posts?

Hi Andrew,

It's really a combination. We included 11 Jack Covert Selects which you've probably seen on the web site, a section of excerpts from industry books, a section of synopses as told by the authors themselves, and then several essays about trends in business book publishing (e.g., China, Web 2.0, Sustainability/Environmentalism) and the books we felt represented those trends well this year.

There is a synopsis of each runner-up and winner of each award category, and a list of our 2007 bestsellers (through November). We have talked about many of the books over the past 12 months, but a few were new to us since they were submitted to the awards program, and it was fun to see things we wouldn't have come across, otherwise.

And, of course, we discuss the company a bit and our impressions of what's happening in the publishing industry.

Thanks for asking - hope this helps!

Curious if indy bookstores have been pitched on stocking the new magazine or if ceoread is the only source?
Grand idea...but I want to hold it and find a comfortable chair.

This reminds me of a great new book I read by Clifton Lambreth, Ford and the American Dream. Clifton Lambreth has demonstrated extreme courage in telling the inside story of what went wrong at on of America’s biggest corporations – Ford Motor Company. This should be required reading for every college business major and every MBA student before they are allowed to graduate, Congress and the Senate should be forced to read as well!!! Thank-you Clifton Lambreth for standing up for America and American Jobs!
Ford and the American Dream is the best book written of 2007!

Hey Tim: I'm a bit late on this one. Indy bookstores haven't been pitched on carrying this...yet. We're hoping at least a few will want to carry it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thank you Dylan for sending through the copies -- "In the Books" is a fantastic piece! Please pass on my compliments to Jack, Todd, Kate, Sally, Jon, and Joy.

I'm going to tell a bunch of folks to order a copy. I hope you printed a lot!

Thanks again,
Dan
