Hi all!

Thanks for logging on to the 800CEOREAD weblog and checking out my new book, Who Are "They" Anyway? Hope you enjoyed following the story over on the excerpt blog.

It's a message of freedom and empowerment. Once we get it that there IS no "they," then we see that if there is going to be any positive change in our jobs and in our lives, it is up to US to make those changes. It's not a message that everyone wants to hear -- so good for you for embracing it! New possibilities open up for us when we accept the fact that no one is coming to save us -- we must create our OWN future! Success is not something that happens by accident, by the luck of the draw -- success is a choice, a choice that is available to each and every one of us, in every moment of every day.

I'll leave you with a question to ponder for yourself: What would you do if you had no fear?

I'd love to hear from you if you have comments, reactions to the story, ideas, or feedback of any kind. You can comment here or your can reach me at my new web site www.whoaretheyanyway.com.

Enjoy these last weeks of summer!

Best always, BJ

You can find the book excerpt blog over at www.800ceoread.com/excerpts or by clicking on this link.

BJ and Steve's book is interesting because the first part is written using a poetic form. Each page of the book is a thought or idea. We have kept that formatting for the excerpt blog. Each page will be posted as a separate entry and we have tried to maintain the formatting of the text as much as possible.

We will be posting a number of pages of the book every day. We will be running this excerpt from today until next Wednesday.

Also remember, it is posted in chronologically order. You will want to start at the top and read down the page. We are experimenting with this for the excerpt. Like I said on Saturday, we think it will be a better format for this type of blog.

We also have an RSS feed for the excerpt blog if you want to subscribe.

We hope you enjoy the story and the new blog. Let us know what you think.

Hi There!

Hi there! My name is BJ Gallagher and I am the coauthor of a new book on personal accountability entitled Who Are "They" Anyway? When I told my son that I had just finished writing my new book, he wrinkled up his nose and exclaimed, "Personal accountability! Oh yuck! Who wants that?" Good question, I thought to myself. Who DOES want personal accountability ... and why? In the coming days I'll engage you in that very question, as you explore various answers for yourself.

Our story begins with an ordinary guy in an ordinary job in an ordinary organization. He keeps hearing people talk about "they" all the time, and he

wonders, "Just who are THEY anyway?" Finally one day, after one "they" too many -- he gets fed up with all the buck passing and goes in search of this ephemeral "they." After all, they've got a lot to account for!

I think you'll recognize many of the characters in the story ... and the typical responses our hero gets when he asks the question, "Who's responsible?" It would be even funnier, if it weren't so true.

Before we begin our story, we've got a simple ten-question quiz for you to take. Oh don't worry, it's not about YOU, it's about your organization. We're wondering, just how accountable are the people where you work? Does your company or organization have a healthy culture of accountability .... or is everyone busy playing the blame game? Once you've taken the quiz, you can read the story, which will be unfolding in the coming days ... and see where our hero's journey takes him. You, like he, might be in for a surprise or two.

At the end of the story, we've got some thought-provoking (and action-provoking too, we hope) ideas and suggestions for you to consider as you ask yourself the questions, "What do I have to gain by becoming more accountable at work? What's in it for me?" We think you'll find the answer is ... PLENTY! But we'll leave it up to you to judge for yourself.

In the meantime, start right in with the introductory quiz -- and then enjoy the story!
