A big book from last year was John Perkins' Confessions of An Economic Hitman. In the book, Perkins recounts his life at Chas. T. Main, a Boston strategic-consulting firm. There is says he was an "economic hit man" where his primary job was to convince developing countries around the world to take multi-billion dollar loans for large infrastructure projects. When these governments could no longer pay for the massive loans, the International Monetary Fund or World Bank would step in and dictate what these countries could and could not do.
