Focus Like a Laser Beam/Lisa Haneberg Interview

This week's podcast is with Lisa Haneberg, author of Focus Like a Laser Beam: 10 Ways to Do What Matters Most. You may have read her popular blog Management Craft. This is Lisa's third book and the first of two coming from Jossey-Bass. Check out High Impact Middle Management and she was a contributer to More Space (disc.- I was the publisher/editor).

My interest in interviewing was to find out why she choose the laser beam metaphor and to better understand the power of focus. I am not someone who is very good at focusing. Listen to what Lisa has to say on how relaxing, fun, and challenges all have to do with focus.

David Rock/Quiet Leadership Interview

This week's interview is with David Rock, author of Quiet Leadership: Six Steps to Transforming Performance in the Workplace.

I think he has something interesting things to say about being a better leader and manager. His work is based on neurological research and he leads his book with these ideas. This is what initially drew me into his book.

David says that only one in twenty conversations create the change that leaders are looking for. In addition to that, a 45-minute conversation only contains five to ten minutes of useful content. So, David's work is about having the right conversation the first time and only spending the time necessary to get the results needed.

I might be partial, but this one is worth a listen.
