Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Flow Science, Inc. is a developer of software for computational fluid dynamics, also known as CFD, a branch of fluid mechanics that uses numerical methods and algorithms to solve and analyze problems that involve fluid flows. In 1963, while working at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, Dr. C. W. "Tony" Hirt pioneered the volume of fluid method for tracking and locating the free surface or fluid-fluid interface. The VOF method improved the solution of a class of fluid flow problems with a free surface, such as the top surface of the water in a reservoir or the advancing front of metal being pumped into a mold.
